Amphibious aircraft are particularly important for the supply of areas that are not suitable for runway construction.
China has announced that the AG600 amphibious aircraft makes its first flight from the sea. In the test flight conducted on July 26, the platform was took off from the Qingdao coast in Shandong District. The AG600 landed at Rizhao Shanzihe Airport after testing its manoeuvrability on a 31-minute trial flight. The platform had its first take off from the water on October 20 from a lake near Zhanghe Airport in Jingmen.
According to a statement from AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China), delivery of the platforms will begin in 2022. With a wingspan of 38.8 meters, the AG600 propelled by four WJ-6 turboprop engines. Developed by Ivchenko AI-20, the system can produce 4,250 HP at sea level. The aircraft, which has a maximum take-off weight of 53.5 tons, has a 12 hours cruise time with 270 knots per hour speed.
It is stated in the defence backstages that the platform was developed for supply missions to small islands far away from the mainland of China.
