U.S. Hides Arms Deal with Saudi Arabia

A senior senator said the Trump administration is pursuing a new arms deal with Saudi Arabia. The news has sparked a backlash from multiple high-profile Senate Democrats. It came after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday confirmed that he knew his department’s inspector general, Steve Linick, who the president fired this month, was investigating a massive arms sale to Saudi Arabia made last year.

Senator Bob Menendez, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, spoke to CNN on Wednesday. Menendez said the Trump administration is pursuing a procure of weapons held secretly to Saudi Arabia.

“I received draft State Department documentation that it is now pursuing this previously undisclosed sale details of which have not yet been made public. And despite the fact that a bipartisan majority in Congress rejected previous sales of these weapons.” Menendez said.

The international Yemeni delegation, which was created under the leadership of the United Nations (UN) because of Saudi Arabia's operations in Yemen, said there were reasonable grounds for war crimes. Spain and Germany decided to impose an embargo on arms sales to Riyadh, but failed to fully implement their decisions. The U.S. senate, on the other hand, is divided over arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
