Turkey to Send First Ground Observation Satellite İmece into Space in 2021

In accordance with the needs of the Ministry of National Defence, the final installation of the first high-resolution ground observation satellite, İmece, developed with domestic facilities under the leadership of TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute, has been completed.

First, the satellite will be tested for thermal conditions in the vacuum environment, then will be subjected to vibration testing on the spacecraft.

Thermal structural tests of the satellite developed as part of the İmece Project, launched in January 2017 to meet Turkey's high-resolution image needs, are expected to be completed by September 2020.

İmece, which has a sub-meter resolution feature, will enable high resolution visual data for the Turkish Armed Forces and better analysis of the conditions. With OPMER Project, sensitive optical components such as mirrors, lenses, prism and filters used in the camera have been developed in Turkey.

The satellite is scheduled to launch into space in 2021.

Turkey's policies aimed at having effective power in space continue within the Turkish Armed Forces. After the Land, Air, Naval Forces and Gendarmerie General Command, the fifth force began to work for the Turkish Space Forces.  “The National Space Program” is prepared and was established in Turkey Space Agency in 2018 in order to conduct studies for implementation. In addition, to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces' satellite view, Reconnaissance Satellite Command in with the Air Force Command of the space-based imaging capabilities also available.
