ULPAR HITFACT MkII integration during live-fire testing

Otokar and Leonardo have completed live-fire testing after integrating Leonardo’s HITFACT MkII 120mm turret onto Otokar’s TULPAR tracked armoured combat vehicle. The resulting configuration combines main battle tank-level firepower with TULPAR’s mobility, protection and modular architecture.

The completed trials demonstrated that Leonardo’s turret technology integrates seamlessly with Otokar’s new-generation tracked platform. The work confirmed not only the configuration’s current performance but also TULPAR’s growth potential and modularity for future mission requirements.

TULPAR HITFACT MkII Integration Process

Ahead of the firing trials, engineering teams from Otokar and Leonardo carried out a comprehensive integration programme covering the mechanical, electrical, electronic and software interfaces between the platform and the turret. Extensive functional checks, safety audits and system verification activities confirmed the performance, reliability and interoperability of the integrated system.

TULPAR HITFACT MkII Firing Trials

Once integration was complete, the platform underwent a series of firing trials under both static and dynamic conditions. The programme assessed the integrated system’s performance across a range of representative operational scenarios. Throughout the trials, the turret and platform demonstrated seamless integration, with the weapon system, fire control system, stabilisation performance and overall system functionality meeting all planned test objectives.

Commenting on the results of the TULPAR HITFACT MkII programme, Otokar Deputy General Manager for Military Vehicles Sedef Vehbi said the successful completion of the programme demonstrated TULPAR’s ability to integrate large-calibre turret systems and deliver the mobility, survivability and firepower required by modern armed forces. Vehbi added that this also reflected Otokar’s modular architecture approach, which enables the rapid integration of mission-specific weapon systems, and said the achievement had reinforced the cooperation between Otokar and Leonardo.

Leonardo Land & Naval Defence Systems Deputy General Manager Luca Perazzo said the integration of the HITFACT MkII turret onto TULPAR once again demonstrated the turret’s modularity. According to Perazzo, HITFACT is currently fitted with a 120mm smoothbore gun and is the only system in the world capable of delivering the same firepower as a main battle tank while being integrable onto a light or medium-class platform, and capable of firing the new guided Vulcano 120 ammunition for precision strikes. Perazzo added that Leonardo also offers the HITFIST family of medium-calibre turrets, which can be fitted with 30mm X-GUN technology.

Following this milestone, the two companies said they would continue to explore further cooperation opportunities and reaffirmed their commitment to providing armed forces worldwide with mission-ready solutions.

TULPAR’s Technical Specifications

TULPAR is Otokar’s new-generation modular tracked armoured combat vehicle, designed to combine mobility, survivability and firepower within a single platform family. Its scalable architecture, with a gross vehicle weight ranging from 28 to 45 tonnes, provides the payload capacity, internal volume and growth potential required for different missions and future needs. The common platform architecture offers a high degree of hull and subsystem commonality across different configurations, supporting operational flexibility and lifecycle efficiency. Tested extensively under demanding climate and terrain conditions, the vehicle can be configured for medium tank, infantry fighting vehicle, fire support, mortar carrier, air defence, recovery and medical evacuation roles.

HITFACT MkII’s Technical Specifications

The HITFACT MkII is a lightweight, modular and fully digitised turret equipped with high-performance panoramic electro-optical systems for the commander and gunner. It is designed to be fitted with either a 105/52mm rifled gun or a 120/45mm low-recoil smoothbore gun. It is described as the world’s first large-calibre turret armed with a high-pressure main battle tank gun that can be integrated onto both wheeled and light tracked vehicles. The turret can also be fitted with the HItrole CUAS RCWS, armed with Leonardo’s new Blaze 30×113 gun, to counter threats from unmanned aerial vehicles.
