Russian Submarine Couldn’t Detected

Submarines are one of the most strategic weapons of the sea due to their stealth feature, which is their greatest weapon. Although the Russian Navy is far from its glory in the Soviet days, it continues to use these strategic platforms almost with the same activity.

According to the news of the Russian TASS Agency, the USA could not detect the Russian submarine. The incident occurred during RFNS Alexander Nevsky's transfer from the Northern Fleet to the Pacific Fleet in 2015. During the cruise, which lasted about 42 days, the platform spent a total of 12 days on the surface and 30 days submerged. The submarine, which was not caught on radars while on the surface, managed to avoid the sonobuoy net of the West by making use of low acoustic sign and special avoidance manoeuvres underwater. According to the Russian side, the USA was able to detect the submarine after the platform arrived in Vilyuchinsk, which is located on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Proje 955 Borey class platforms, the most modern submarine class in the inventory of the Russian Navy, are 170 meters long. Submarine surface displacement is 14,720, and submerged displacement is 24,000 tons. The Project 955 can reach a maximum speed of 28 knots/hour and can carry 16 RSM-56 Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missiles.
