Russia to Increase Amphibious Power

 

 

Russia-based United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has made new statement about shipbuilding activities. The statement also includes Russia’s new intentions. Russia plans two or three new IVan Gren class amphibious assault ships.

 

 

There is currently no clear order or agreement. However, company said that a number of improvements will be made in the design of the ship and that after this work the Russian Navy intends to order additional vessels. Two or three additional Project 11711 amphibious assault ships could be constructed if the order was received.

 

 

The first Project 11711 Ivan Gren class amphibious ship was laid in 2004. Platform underwent a long construction process and was launched in 2012. Ship was accepted to the Navy in June 2018. The second vessel, which can carry 13 main battle tanks or 36 armored vehicles, is currently under construction and is expected to be start naval tests in March 2019.
