September 21, 2020Romania Receives first PAC-3 MSE Patriot System
Lockheed Martin announced from its tweeter account on September 18, 2020, that Romania has received its first US-made PAC-3 MSE Patriot air defence missile system. Romania became the first country in the Black Sea region to receive the Patriot missile system.
Pentagon announced on May 25, 2018, the contract calls for Raytheon to build Romania's first brand-new Patriot air defence missile fire unit Configuration 3+.
The first Patriot system was delivered to Romania on September 17, 2020, during an official ceremony at the National Training Centre for Air Defence from Capu Midia Military Base, near the Black Sea port of Constanta.
Romanian Prime Minister Orban Ludovic and Defence Minister Nicolae Ciuca attended to the ceremony. Three remaining Patriot missile systems will be delivered in 2022.
PAC-3, the PAC-3 MSE uses a two-pulse solid rocket motor that increases altitude and range to defend against evolving threats.
