The Polish government has preferred the offer from the Swedish government and Saab regarding A26 submarines for the new submarines that will replace its aging Kilo-class submarine fleet. This choice is seen as the first step of a strategic partnership between Poland and Sweden that will enhance security in the Baltic Sea.
According to a statement from Saab, the Swedish offer selected by the Polish Armament Agency includes advanced A26 submarines equipped with the latest innovations and technologies. One of the important components of the offer is also a strong commitment to cooperation and knowledge transfer with Polish industry.
A26 Submarines: Specially Designed for the Baltic Sea
Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson expressed his satisfaction with the selection:
“We are honored to have been chosen and look forward to negotiations with the Armament Agency in Poland. The Swedish offer, which includes submarines specially designed for the Baltic Sea, is the right choice for the people of Poland. This will significantly enhance the operational capability of the Polish Navy and will contribute to the Polish economy.”
The A26 submarines are particularly known for their ability to operate in shallow and complex waters, and they are expected to bring the operational capability of the Polish Navy up to modern standards.
Process Continues: No Contract Signed Yet
In the statement released by the company, it was emphasized that Saab has not yet signed any contract or received any order. The company and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) will now continue with the next steps and negotiations in the procurement process together with Polish officials. The successful completion of this process will be a milestone in Poland’s submarine modernization.
