Production of the first Oshkosh DXPV prototype has begun. Developed for the Netherlands and also known as “Kaaiman,” the vehicle is based on the JLTV platform.
Oshkosh Defense is producing the DXPV on its existing Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) production line. The Oshkosh DXPV features suspension upgrades aimed at improving off-road performance, corrosion protection suitable for maritime environments, and modular protection options.
Mission-Adaptable DXPV
In addition to suspension upgrades designed to improve mobility and off-road performance, the DXPV features corrosion protection for maritime environments, modular protection options, environmental improvements and integrated mission systems. The DXPV’s modular architecture will also allow future upgrades and mission-specific Oshkosh DXPV configurations to be integrated into the vehicle.
Oshkosh Defense Vice President and General Manager Jeff Heggemeier stated that the start of DXPV prototype production represents an important step toward delivering next-generation capability to the Netherlands. He also highlighted the importance of adapting existing vehicle technologies and active production infrastructure to changing customer requirements based on the Oshkosh DXPV. This approach also supports innovation within the industry.
Rapid Development Using an Existing Production Line
The DXPV is being produced on Oshkosh Defense’s existing production line. JLTV-based C-UAS vehicles are also being produced on the same line. The company stated that adapting existing and field-proven platforms such as the JLTV to changing operational requirements together with the Oshkosh DXPV could shorten development timelines. Oshkosh Defense also noted that the existing JLTV infrastructure and active production line can reduce the time required to move from concept to prototype compared with traditional vehicle development processes.
