United States Naval Systems Command (NAVSEA) has announced that USS Charleston (LCS 18) littoral combat ship has completed the acceptance trials. During tests conducted in the Gulf of Mexico, ship made 11-meter boat operation, detection and engagement against air and surface targets, bow thruster and anchorage operations were tested. After delivery, USS Charleston will undergo a post-delivery availability that includes crew training, certifications and familiarization exercises in Mobile and will be deployed to San Diego, the base of the ship.

The LCS, which is configurable according to requirements thanks to modular structure, can be quickly configured for anti-surface of anti-submarine warfare when necessary. Designed and constructed with an open architecture, the ship has the ability to operate various manned and unmanned vehicles.
