Nuclear Task for Raytheon

The US, which announced that suspension of the INF (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces / Mid-Range Nuclear Forces) Treaty, is determined to return its tactical nuclear capability to its old days.

With the AGM-86 ALCM (Air Launched Cruise Missile / Airborne Cruise Missile) systems retired in November 2019, the US took action to fill the capability gap in the cruise missile area that could carry nuclear warheads. In this context, the US Air Force (US Air Force / USAF) has signed an agreement with Raytheon, one of the country's leading missile manufacturers. With the agreement, the company will develop a next-generation nuclear cruise missiles for the force. The decision was announced with the company's announcement on April 20. As part of the LRSO (Long Range Standoff Weapon) project, the force had previously signed agreements for the technology development and risk analysis phase. USAF started the program with both Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, but later on, decided to concentrate on Raytheon design.

LRSO systems are aimed to form the long-range tactical nuclear strike force of the USA with platforms such as B-52H Stratofortress, B-1B Lancer, B-2 Spirit and B-21 Raider, which is planned to be put into service in the future.
