Netherlands Wants New CBRN Vehicles

The Netherlands is to replace its 12 Fuchs armoured vehicles for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN) reconnaissance will reach the end of their lifespan in a few years. Netherlands Ministry of Defence announced on 1 May that they will look for the possibility of international cooperation before purchasing. The country is already working with Germany, Canada, Norway, the United States, the United Kingdom and Sweden in terms of CBRN research and operational training.

In a relevant statement, the Ministry said the new reconnaissance capability must be able to detect and identify all CBRN-relevant substances, which also applies to radiation. Another requirement is that the detection equipment must be remotely operable to ensure the safety of personnel. The project will run from 2018 to 2022.
