Türkiye’s state-owned defense company MKE has successfully carried out the first test of its kamikaze unmanned surface vehicle (USV) PİRANA, developed within the framework of the Denizkurdu-I/2026 exercise, firing a 100-kilogram live warhead. The system struck a surface target with precision, and the trial drew wide coverage in the Greek press as well.
Reports in the Greek media highlighted that PİRANA hit a surface target, underlining that this marks a new step in the development of Ankara’s asymmetric naval warfare capabilities.
A Low-Cost Design
The system can operate either autonomously (solo) or in swarms. PİRANA’s stealth features are designed to make detection by enemy radar more difficult. MKE’s PİRANA test during the Denizkurdu-I/2026 exercise also drew coverage in the Greek press.
