A system that can hide itself completely on the battlefield, detect enemy radars and radios without emitting any signals, is now available on the global market with no ITAR restrictions. Leonardo has officially introduced Guardian Vantage. This is a next-generation Electronic Warfare (EW) and Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) system designed specifically for land vehicles, naval platforms, and shelters.

In today’s battlefield, the ability to sense the electromagnetic spectrum has become critical. The system collects real-time signals from radars, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and communication networks. The data gathered is then used by friendly forces for surveillance and target identification. As a result, it provides clear information about the enemy’s identity, location, and activities.

All intercepted enemy emissions are fused under an integrated command-and-control (C2) structure. Guardian Vantage maps out the emitters it detects and prioritises the most threatening ones. Then it automatically generates an electronic order of battle (ORBAT). This process gives commanders a clearer picture of the enemy’s possible intentions and the risks to their own forces.

Passive Detection and AI Assistance

The system’s operational architecture is based entirely on passive operation. Since it emits no electromagnetic signals of its own, it minimises the risk of exposing friendly forces’ positions. Thus, it gives them greater freedom of movement on the battlefield. The hardware scans the spectrum for anomalies and unusual data patterns, then matches intercepted signals against its built-in threat library.

The system also includes a capability to transcribe radio conversations in real time. Thanks to integrated large language models (LLM), military communications in foreign languages can be translated instantly into the operator’s native language.

Speaking at the launch event during the Association of Old Crows Europe conference, Leonardo Campaign Manager Mike Brown said that Guardian Vantage turns the electromagnetic spectrum into an operational advantage and delivers decision superiority. He noted that its open architecture allows it to be quickly updated to counter future threats. Additionally, he added that the company is offering customers a long-term roadmap for sovereign electronic warfare capability.

Thanks to its platform-agnostic design, the system can be easily adapted to different land and naval vehicles. It also falls outside ITAR restrictions, making it eligible for rapid export. The high-performance components and software behind the product come from UK-based specialist SMEs: CommsAudit, Esroe, and Mercury.
