KONGSBERG PROTECTOR counter-UAS systems to be delivered to Poland will be able to operate in GPS-denied environments. Advanced Navigation will supply hundreds of Boreas inertial navigation systems for this purpose.
Advanced Navigation and KONGSBERG have signed an agreement for the use of Advanced Navigation systems on KONGSBERG’s PROTECTOR Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) platforms. Under the agreement, Advanced Navigation will supply hundreds of Boreas Fiber Optic Gyroscope Inertial Navigation Systems. The deal follows a previous multi-million-dollar agreement under which Advanced Navigation supplied Boreas D90 FOG INS systems for integration with KONGSBERG systems.
Under the €16 million agreement, Advanced Navigation’s Boreas Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG) Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) will be integrated into KONGSBERG’s PROTECTOR C-UAS systems.

Advanced Navigation EMEA General Manager David Leniewski stated that Boreas provides positioning, orientation and stabilization independent of satellite navigation, enabling PROTECTOR systems to maintain sensor alignment and continue target engagement in environments where GPS signals are jammed, spoofed or unavailable. Leniewski also noted that PROTECTOR and Boreas together provide a layered C-UAS capability that is both economically sustainable and operationally resilient.
Air Threats to be Detected
The inertial systems, which provide precise positioning, orientation and heading, will enable C-UAS stations to accurately detect, track and neutralize aerial threats when GPS signals are jammed, spoofed or unavailable. PROTECTOR platforms manufactured in Norway will be delivered to the Polish Armament Agency under an agreement worth approximately €1.45 billion (NOK 16 billion) to protect Poland against evolving aerial threats.
Jørgen Andreas Bull, Senior Vice President of KONGSBERG Land Systems, emphasized that modern threats do not recognize fixed boundaries and that countering them requires a fundamental transformation in platform survivability. Bull added that the partnership provides the reliable, multi-spectrum resilience required by modern forces.
