Japan's National Security Council has submitted proposals for solutions that could be an alternative to the Aegis Ashore ballistic missile defence system. The council, which has put forward three alternatives to the missile defence system, first proposed a system stationed on a floating platform.

Separating the anti-missile system from radar is the second option; Using spy-7 radar with existing warships equipped with Aegis systems was the latest proposal of the National Security Council.

Japan, which wants to supply two Aegis Ashore ballistic missile defence systems from the United States to deploy it to its shores, announced early June (2020) that the plan had been suspended due to technical problems and lack of budget.
