Happy End in KC-46 Pegasus

The KC-46 Pegasus replenishment tanker, which struggled with difficulties in the manufacturing and testing process, reached a happy ending. Boeing delivered the first KC-46 to the US Air Force (USAF).

The KC-46 Pegasus, developed from the Boeing 767 commercial airliner, was officially handed over to the USAF at a ceremony held at Boeing's Everett Plant. Due to problems, the delivery will be delayed. Platform will be transferred to McConnell Air Force, stationed in Wichita, Kansas, USA.

Although the first aircraft was delivered, the problems in the KC-46 were not solved. In the remote vision system used during the aircraft refuelling process and in the refuelling boom, there are still important technical problems. The refuelling boom has problems with a predetermined maximum load. It was also announced that supplier of refuelling pods; Cobham would not deliver until the third quarter of 2020. In the event that Boeing cannot find the necessary solutions to the problems, the delivery package consisting of nine aircraft and 18 refuelling pods will be delayed. There is a risk of not delivering before the last quarter of 2020.
