General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada has developed the new GRIZZLY LAV Self‑Propelled Howitzer (SPH), a platform that delivers on‑the‑move fire support and is equipped with a highly automated 155 mm artillery gun module. The company officially unveiled it at the CANSEC 2026 exhibition. Held in Ottawa, this major event brings together Canada’s defence industry, and with the debut of the GRIZZLY LAV SPH it turned into a technology showcase for both government officials and representatives of the Canadian Armed Forces. Moreover, this platform – which represents domestic design and manufacturing strength – has drawn attention as a strategic solution that highlights the technological maturity of Canada’s industrial base.
A Perfect Balance of Mobility and Firepower
Built on Canada’s proven Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) platform, this new system – standing out under the GRIZZLY SPH LAV concept – combines the series’ signature superior mobility and protection with common‑use capabilities that offer logistical advantages.
The most remarkable engineering achievement lies in the collaboration with German defence giant KNDS Deutschland. Thanks to this partnership, the GRIZZLY LAV SPH is fitted with a battle‑proven, highly automated 155 mm advanced artillery module that can deliver fire support while on the move. As a result, the system takes its operational flexibility to the highest level.

Domestic Production
During the unveiling, officials stressed that the GRIZZLY SPH LAV platform – the GRIZZLY LAV SPH – is not just a military necessity for indigenous defence capabilities, but also a strategic gain for the economy and industrial infrastructure.
