Russia's United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC), a part of Russia's state technologies corporation Rostec, developed a ‘friend or foe’ identification system to be used on the country’s modernized Su-35s, stealth T-50 PAK FA and Il-76 aircraft. UIMC’s press service announced the new technology on Wednesday, saying that the hardware and software suite is designed to determine the state affiliation of military and civil aircraft, and to recognize them in order to protect domestic aircraft from friendly fire.Â
