France has decided to modernize the MICAair-to-air missile system. Following the Ministerial Investment Committee, which was attended by the Minister of Armed Forces Florence Parly, information on the modernization program was provided. Under the program called MICA New Generation (MICA NG), missiles will gain enhanced capabilities. It is is expected that MICA NG to offer higher performance than its predecessors, while keeping initial acquisition and maintenance costs low.

MICA NG's will be developed in Infrared (IR) and Electromagnetic (EM) guidance models and with them it is aimed to increase the capabilities of Mirage 2000 and Rafale aircraft. It is planned to be in service between 2026 and 2031. It is also aimed to increase the export potential by developing MICA NG systems in accordance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) standards.
