Fast Attack Craft Delivery to Hellenic Navy

Greece, which continues to acquire defence systems despite economic problems, has received a new fast attack craft.

The Hellenic Navy added a new fast attack craft to its inventory. Athens announced that the Super Vita class platform was named as HS Karathanasis (P 78). The vessel, which is stated to be commissioned in the Fast Attack Command, is the sixth ship of its class.

Super Vita fast attack crafts that have serving in the Greek Navy inventory since 2005, are also known as Roussen class in the country. The boats have a 668 tons full displacement. Boats are 62 meters long and 9.5 meters wide. Platforms driven by four MTU 16V595 TE90 diesel machines. FACs are equipped with 1 Oto Melara 76 mm main gun, 21 cell Mk 31 launcher RIM-116 RAM and two Auto Melara 30 mm guns. The boats can reach a maximum speed of 35 knots and can be equipped with up to eight MM40 Exocet anti-ship missiles.

Greek Minister of Defece Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos also attended the delivery ceremony of HS Karathanasis. In a decree issued recently, Greece declared HS Vlachakos (P 79), the seventh platform of its class, as the urgent need. The Navy was tasked with completing the construction of the boat at the military shipyard if the construction activities were still in progress, could not be completed on the planned date.
