Fairbanks Morse Engines to Power Saudi Navy’s MMSCs

Fairbanks Morse has been awarded a contract to deliver eight high-powered diesel engines to power four Multi-Mission Surface Combatant ships to be built for the Royal Saudi Navy. The engines will begin to be manufactured in early 2019 with delivery scheduled for September 2020, according to Fairbanks Morse.

The US State Department approved the $11.25 billion foreign military sales (FMS) in 2015. The US Navy and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed the letter of offer and acceptance (LOA) for MMSCs in May last year. MMSC is a derivative of the US Navy’s Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).
