Finland has chosen the air defence missile for the new corvettes to be procured under the Squadron 2020 Program. The platforms to be named Pohjanmaa class will be equipped with ESSM.

Finnish Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö announced the authorization of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command for the procurement of missiles. The main element of the air defence system, which will be called ITO20, will be the ESSM. Missiles will also be integrated into the four Pohjanmaa class corvettes. A total of 83 million Euros of procurement agreement are planned with the US for all systems. Ships will also have an ESSM as well as an IAI production Gabriel surface-to-missile system.
