The Jackal 3 delivery for the British Army has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the production line at Devonport. With the final Jackal 3 Extenda model rolling off the line at the Devonport facility, the army’s high mobility platform project has been successfully concluded.
The 123 vehicle fleet, delivered through the Babcock and Supacat partnership, is taking the army’s field capability to a new level in reconnaissance and logistics missions.
A New Standard in Field Operations
The next generation Jackal 3 vehicles have been designed to perform in the toughest terrain conditions for reconnaissance, patrol and logistics support missions. With the project now complete, the army has begun pre operational testing for the newly acquired vehicles.
Louise Atkinson, CEO of Babcock’s Land and Mission Systems division, commented on the project’s completion. She said, “By combining Supacat’s design with Babcock’s production expertise, we have delivered the practical and durable platform the army needs on time.
Domestic Industry and Army Cooperation
The British Army’s modernisation push for armoured platforms is not limited to Jackal 3. The service recently signed a contract for the RCH 155 howitzer as well. The project’s success is seen as a reflection of the British defence industry’s domestic capacity. Supacat Director Phil Applegarth noted that the two companies have combined their experience to produce rapid solutions. Major General Lizzie Faithfull Davies, Director of the Land Environment, said the platform’s adaptability is vital for operational success.
Defence Secretary Lord Coaker stated that the production at Devonport not only enhances military capability but also confirms the defence sector’s role in economic growth through its contribution to the local economy.
The Jackal 3 fleet will begin active operations in the coming period, in line with the British Army’s goal of establishing terrain dominance and strengthening defence capability in all environments. This programme once again proves that two British brands can design, produce and deliver world class military vehicles.
