Russia had begun a modernization study for the Ka-52M Alligator to improve the electrical generator and electrooptic systems. The helicopter prototype has completed its first flight.

With modernization, the target detection and recognition range of the Ka-52M increased. The platform is equipped with active-phase radar and increased range guided missile. The helicopter can operate in all weather conditions, including arctic conditions. At the end of the preliminary acceptance tests, state joint tests will begin.

The mass production of the Ka-52 Alligator rotary wing aircraft, designed to provide reconnaissance, lighting and command missions to attack helicopter groups, began in 2008.
