Airborne early warning and control aircraft (AEW&C) are an important power multiplier for users due to their capability to keep an eye on friendly elements in the front line and to instantly transmit enemy movements.
Saab, one of Sweden's leading companies, announced that the order for Saab 2000 Erieye AEW&C was received from an unnamed country. Deliveries will be made between 2020 and 2023, under the USD 160 million deal.
Saab is currently recommending the GlobalEye platform, which consists of the Bombardier 6000/6500 and Erieye ER radar to new customers. This brings up the possibility that the customer may be one of the existing users in the subject procurement.
Saab 2000 AEW & C, developed with the combination of Saab 2000 and Saab PS890 Erieye radar, stands out with capabilities such as electronic support, threat warning, friend or foe detection and command-control. The platform, which can reach a 2,868 km range, has 321 knots / hour cruise speed. The maximum take-off weight of the aircraft is 22,800 kilograms. Platform is already in inventroy of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
