Germany and the Netherlands have exercised a contract option to order 69 additional BOXER RCT30 wheeled infantry fighting vehicles. The Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation (OCCAR) formally activated the option tied to the two nations’ 222-vehicle framework contract, signed in 2025.
The move brings total new investment in the BOXER programme over the past 12 months to roughly €6.5 billion. The supply contract was signed with ARTEC GmbH, the programme’s prime industry partner and a joint venture between Rheinmetall and KNDS.
BOXER RCT30 Fleet Grows, Armed With 30mm Gun and Anti-Tank Missiles
With the new order, the Bundeswehr’s fleet rises from 150 to 185 vehicles, while the Royal Netherlands Army’s fleet climbs to 106. The BOXER RCT30 carries a 30mm automatic cannon on its unmanned RCT30 turret and is fitted with the MELLS anti-tank guided missile system, giving it the reach to counter a wide range of battlefield threats. Able to carry a six-man infantry squad, the vehicle — designated “Schakal” — is set to become a core mechanised infantry platform for both armed forces.
