Russia Increases Number of Project 21980 Boats

Russia held a keel laying ceremony at Vympel Shipyard on 15 May for its Navy's first of four new Project 21980 (Grachonok-class) anti-terror vessels. The vessels are being constructed under a 2017 contract. Vympel Shipyard aims to deliver all four boats in 2019 which are to serve in the Black Sea. After entering service, the vessels will bring the number of the Navy's Grachonok-class platforms to 20.

The 31-meter boats are equipped with heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, anti-sabotage and man-portable air defense systems.
