Qatar has submitted a formal request to the United States to buy F-35 fighter jets according to Reuters' exclusive report.
A U.S. State Department spokesman said, “As a matter of policy, the United States does not confirm or comment on proposed defence sales or transfers until they are formally notified to Congress.”
The Qatari embassy in Washington, D.C. did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Establishing diplomatic relations with Israel, the United Arab Emirates aims to supply the F-35. Israel does not directly oppose this request, but it is reflected in the backstage that the USA has assured in response to its concerns.
On the other hand, it is known that Qatar is working with Russia on the supply of S-400 air defence system.
