F-15EX License Obtained for India

Boeing received the license from the US government to offer the F-15EX fighter jet to the Indian Air Force.

The Indian Air Force is planning to buy 114 aircraft to replace its existing fleet. Boeing will compete with Sweden’s Gripen and France’s Rafale to market the F-15EX.

Ankur Kanaglekar, director, India Fighters Lead, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, said negotiations on the F-15EX had already begun between the two governments. “Now that we have the marketing licence it allows us to talk to the Indian Air Force directly about the capability of the fighter. We have started doing that in a small way,” Kanaglekar said.

Talks with Boeing are expected to accelerate at the Aero India Fair in India from February 3rd to February 5th.

U.S. and India’s Sectoral Bond

India, which has purchased $20 billion worth of weapons from the United States for nearly 15 years, was designated the Main Defence Partner by the White House in 2016. Sectoral exchanges between the two countries continue unabated. Lockheed Martin is known to have offered its F-21 fighter jet to New Delhi and proposed to build the platform in India. If the deal is to go through, a contract worth about $18 billion will be signed.
