The US Air Force held the MQ-1 Predator’s official retirement ceremony on 9 March at Creech Air Force Base. The retirement marks the transition to an all MQ-9 Reaper force which will become the backbone of USAF drone operations. The retired Predators may enter duty with the US Navy, according to a previous statement by a USAF spokesperson. The Air Force is now working with the Navy to determine configurations and quantity for possible transfer.
