The V-22 Ospreys incorporate the features of the helicopter's vertical landing, take-off and maneuverability, and the speed and range of fixed-wing platforms. The first export agreement for vehicles, which is the only military system with these features, was signed in previous periods.

Japan moved for the procurement of V-22 Ospreys in 2014 and signed an agreement with the US for the first four platforms in 2016. On the other hand, Tokyo had to postpone deliveries several times because the people living in the areas where platforms were planned to be deployed did not want the aircraft due to “safety” and “noise” concerns. After the city of Kisarazu only allowed five years to host the V-22, the first vehicles were transported to Japan by sea. Two V-22 Ospreys arriving at the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni will be delivered to the Japanese authorities after the necessary tests and ispections are completed by the US Marine Corps units in the region.

Necessary infrastructure works and preparations will be carried out at Saga Airport, which is located on Kyūshu Island, during the temporary deployment process that will last for five years. The 17 V-22 Ospreys, which will be received in total, will be deployed here. The platforms will be an important force multiplier for the defence of Japanese islands in the southern and southeastern parts of the country.
