Northrop Grumman has signed a massive $488 million radar engineering contract covering the F-16 fleets of 21 countries, including Türkiye. This sole-source, IDIQ agreement ensures the technical continuity and modernization of the APG-66 and APG-68 radar systems on F-16s through 2036.
The U.S. Department of Defense announced the huge ceiling-value deal worth $488 million with Northrop Grumman Systems for the F-16 System Program Office, Foreign Military Sales, and Air Force/Navy support. The contract is a fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity type aimed at maintaining the radar systems that serve as the operational heart of the global F-16 fleet.
Scope of Technical Support and Modernization
The agreement covers critical engineering and technical support specifically for the APG-66 and APG-68 F-16 radar models. The work will be carried out at facilities in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2036. This long-term timeline will allow user countries to keep their radar systems technologically up to date.
Türkiye and 20 Allied Countries on the List
This contract, conducted under the Foreign Military Sales framework, covers a wide network of users worldwide. Among the countries receiving support, Türkiye stands out for its strategic importance. The full list of countries covered by the contract is as follows:
Bahrain, Belgium, Chile, Denmark, Egypt, Greece, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Korea, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Thailand, and Türkiye.
Contract Details and Funding
The contract was awarded on a sole-source basis, with $2,644,922 in unallocated Air Force and Navy funds for fiscal year 2026 obligated at the time of award. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, has been authorized as the contracting authority.
