BAE Systems has unveiled solar-powered high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) PHASA-35 concept on 3 May. The UAV has the potential to fly for up to a year before needing maintenance, the company said in a statement.
Prismatic and BAE Systems will collaborate on the development of the new PHASA-35, with work already underway to prepare the first aircraft to be ready for flight tests in 2019. The PHASA-35™ concept has a 35-metre wingspan and weighs just 150kg. According to the statement, a quarter-scale demonstrator known as PHASA-8 made its maiden flight in 2017.
