Unmanned ground vehicles, started to duty on battlefield with destroying armoured vehicles, gain different dimensions with the developing technology.
Estonian-based Milrem Robotics, which is currently working on 10 different concepts, has announced its new unmanned ground vehicle. The new platform introduced as Type-X was equipped with the CPWS II (Cockerill Protected Weapon Station Gen. II) turret, which developed by John Cockerill. Type-X, the first platform developed in line with the operational doctrines and requirements of the mechanized units, can be air-dropped with its 12-ton weight or can be hoo-lifted by heavy-lift helicopters when necessary. The vehicle, which gains high off-road capability and has a low acoustic with rubber track, can accompany heavy mechanized units. The platform, which can be managed remotely with an operator, can act autonomously in coordination with manned vehicles thanks to its augmented artificial intelligence infrastructure. In addition, the Type-X has the operational capability with manned mechanized elements or unmanned vehicle formations. The vehicle is 6 meters long, 2.9 meters wide and 2.2 meters high; it can reach a maximum speed of 80 km / h. The operational range of the Type-X is 600 km.
The vehicle, which has armour protection STANAG 4569 Level 4 at critical points, was developed to provide fire support to friendly elements, especially in the absence of heavily armoured modern main battle tanks. The platform, driven by a hybrid power pack ranging from 285 to 320 HP, can be adapted to different tasks such as cargo, radar, engineering, armoured mortar and air defence role thanks to its modular structure. Type-X's armoured combat vehicle (ACV) model equipped with a 30 mm Mk44 Bushmaster II main weapon. The platform is also a cost-effective solution than manned ACVs. The system makes possible transport firepower over long distances with a small number of vehicles in a short time, thanks to transported 5-6 of at same time by large cargo aircraft such as A400M and C-17 Globemaster III.
