Tank active protection systems ensure to eliminate missile threat by both hard-kill and soft-kill methods.

Vietnam received 64 T-90S and SK main battle tanks from Russia in December 2018. The platforms, which constitute the most modern tank power of Vietnam, made demonstration to the delegation during a visit of the Vietnamese authorities to the 201st Tank Brigade. In the photos shared on social media, it was seen that the imported T-90s were equipped with the Shtora-1 active protection system.

Shtora-1 is an electro-optic active protection system, operates in the infrared spectrum. The system eliminates the threat by jamming laser pointer, rangefinder and tracking mechanisms of anti-tank missiles, which poses threat to the tank.

Vietnam, which has significant border disputes with China, has T-90S / SK, Type 59, T-62, T-54/55, T-34/85 and PT-76B elements in inventory.
