The North Korea Missile Administration conducted a successful firing test to verify the operational effectiveness of a large-caliber multiple rocket launcher system (MRLS) modernized with next-generation technologies. According to information released by the official state agency KCNA, the test, carried out on January 27, 2026, was conducted with the personal participation of Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of State Affairs.
Technical Modernization and Range Parameters
It was announced that the modernized weapons system has been brought to a level capable of using the most powerful features of technology in the most appropriate and effective manner. Expressing his satisfaction with the test results, Kim Jong Un stated that the technical level achieved represents an important turning point in enhancing the country’s strategic deterrence. It was emphasized in particular that the rockets’ mobility, intelligence capacity, and hitting accuracy have been increased to a remarkable degree.
Operational Flexibility and Future Planning
In the official statement, it was noted that after modernization the system has acquired a structure that is more applicable for specific strike missions and that, thanks to a “self-guiding precision flight system,” it demonstrates resistance to external interference. Stating that this achievement was attained as a result of the intensive efforts of defense scientists and technicians, Kim Jong Un announced that the plans for the next phase of the nuclear deterrence strategy would be clarified at the 9th Party Congress, scheduled to convene next month.
