Assuming a critical responsibility within NATO’s Allied Reaction Force (ARF), the Anatolian Turkish Naval Task Group has set sail to participate in the STEADFAST DART 2026 exercise. Deploying from Türkiye, the task group will arrive at the port of Rota, Spain, on Thursday, 29 January 2026, and take its position for the major exercise.
Historic Command Role from Türkiye

The Turkish Naval Forces have made history within NATO by assuming the roles of Commander Amphibious Task Force (CATF) and Commander Landing Force (CLF) for the period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026. This strategic leadership further reinforces Türkiye’s weight within NATO’s collective defense and crisis management mechanisms.
Strong Structure of the Task Group and Emphasis on Domestic Industry

Within the scope of STEADFAST DART 2026, a fully national and modern naval force structure is being demonstrated. The main elements of the task group are as follows:
TCG Anadolu (LHD): Dock Landing Ship
TCG Derya: Logistics Support Ship
TCG İstanbul: I-Class Frigate
TCG Oruçreis: Barbaros-Class Frigate
The most notable feature of these vessels is that they were designed and built in Türkiye. These platforms, reflecting the capacity of the Turkish defense industry, make a direct contribution to NATO’s operational effectiveness.
Multi-Dimensional Operational Capability

The task group offers a wide spectrum of operations not only with surface elements, but also with rotary-wing aircraft, amphibious assault vehicles, and unmanned aerial systems. This equipment enables the uninterrupted execution of amphibious operations across multiple domains, clearly demonstrating Türkiye’s ability to manage complex multinational operations.
NATO Activities Across a Wide Geography

During the period from January to April 2026, the Anatolian Turkish Naval Task Group will operate across a very broad maritime area, ranging from the Mediterranean Sea to the Baltic Sea, and from the Bay of Biscay to the Adriatic.
Objective of STEADFAST DART: To strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defense posture by providing allied forces with a high-intensity training environment.
Through the leadership roles it has assumed and its fully capable amphibious task group, Türkiye once again proves its unwavering commitment to NATO’s rapid crisis response capability and shared security objectives.
