One of the Republic of Turkey’s largest investments in the defense industry, the BMC Ankara Tank and New Generation Armored Vehicles Production Facility, was inaugurated in a ceremony held on October 28, 2025.
Within this historic opening ceremony, the first New ALTAY Tanks produced with national resources were officially delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). With the new production facility, Turkey has advanced its position in the defense industry by becoming one of 12 countries worldwide capable of designing and manufacturing an indigenous main battle tank.
First Delivery at the BMC Facility: Turkey’s Indigenous Tank Production Capability
The ALTAY Tank was equipped entirely with systems developed by national defense industry companies. These system integrations increased the tank’s technological superiority and level of domestic content.
ASELSAN, ROKETSAN and HAVELSAN Technologies in the ALTAY
- ASELSAN: More than 10 critical systems integrated by ASELSAN are included in the tank.
- ROKETSAN: The tank is equipped with advanced armor technology developed by ROKETSAN.
- HAVELSAN: HAVELSAN simulation technologies developed by Turkish engineers will be actively used in ALTAY’s training processes.
ALTAY’s Firepower: National Weaponry and Ammunition Support from MKE
The Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE) made significant contributions to the production of the vital components that constitute the ALTAY Tank’s firepower. The key components supported by MKE are as follows:
- Main Weapon System: 120 mm L/55 caliber main gun.
- Secondary Weapon System: 7.62 mm coaxial secondary weapon system — machine gun (PMT-76/57T).
- Ammunition Support: 120 mm tank ammunition.
