The Republic of Korea, which is constantly under the threat of the North and therefore has to have a capable army infrastructure, has recently announced its intention to acquire new airborne early warning and control aircraft (AEW&C).
Saab confirmed that it will bid the Republic of Korea, which launched for additional AEW&C acquisition. While the procurement of two platforms was foreseen in the first place, no information was given about whether the purchase would be made directly or through a tender. DAPA, the defence procurement agency of the Republic of Korea, is expected to announce its procurement method in the coming months.
In the statement made by the company, not only platform sale, but also technology transfer and cooperation will be included in the package. Saab has also collaborated with the Korean LIG Nex1 in the past on Arthur Gunshot Detection System and radars.
Developed on the Bombardier Global 6000 business jet, the platform features Saab Erieye ER radar with gallium-nitride technology. The platforms, which allow different electronic sensor integration according to the requirement, come to the fore with its features such as long detection and tracking range, multiple target tracking and 11 hours endurance.
