On August 21, Israeli RADA Electronic Industries Ltd. announced that its Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radars (MHR), which are embedded in the Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Drone Dome counter-drone solution, will be delivered to the British Army in the coming months.
Deliveries of this program are expected to be concluded within 2018. The British Army will be the first customer to implement the Drone Dome, to protect sensitive facilities and military infrastructure of drones. “The Drone Dome system is a complete solution, designed to defend the airspace against hostile drones used by terrorists and criminals to carry out aerial attacks and gather intelligence,” says Rafael.
The integrated MHR radar in the system will provide 360-degree coverage and detect aircraft within a radius of 3 to 5 km. The Drone Dome also incorporates a scrambling system to neutralize drones.
RADA’s MHR detects the drones at distances of 3-5 kilometres. Signal intelligence system along with electro-optical sensors, provide additional layers of threat classification and identification, while RF jamming provides the soft-kill layer of this solution.
