Gürcan Okumuş, who is the TÜBİTAK SAGE (Savunma Sanayii Araştırma ve Geliştirme Enstitüsü / Defence Industries Research and Development Instute) Institute Director, was a guest on live stream at C4Defence's Instagram account. Okumuş made important statements about SOM cruise missile.
The Stand Off Missile (SOM) family is taking firm steps forward. Okumuş stated that the SOM B-2 model, which are currently under development, have been test-launched and that they will enter the inventory soon, and that studies for the C-1 and C-2 variants is continuing. C-1s and C-2s are variants also have a data link and developed for naval surface targets. Studies on jamming resistant electronic systems for SOMs are ongoing. Gürcan Okumuş underlined that the possible retrofitting studies of earlier variants with new electronic components will be on the agenda in the future. Studies on the range and additional specifications for the SOM family are ongoing. Although there are no finalized projects, it is stated that there are future plans for variants launched from land and sea.
Okumuş stated that new cruise missile studies were also continues with the experience obtained from SOM, some reached maturity level, and some were still at the concept level.
