Following the United States and Italy, Spain has made its choice: Indra and IDV have signed a strategic agreement to deliver the game-changing SUPERAV 8×8 platform to the Spanish Marine Corps.
In a project that will transform the operational capability of the Spanish Marines, Spain has followed the lead of the U.S. and Italian militaries by selecting the SUPERAV 8×8, one of the world’s most advanced platforms. The strategic agreement signed between Indra Land Vehicles and IDV initiates a comprehensive process. This process covers the procurement of 34 high-tech vehicles and the integration of critical systems using local capabilities.
Strategic Partnership and the VACIM Program
The procurement of the Marine Amphibious Combat Vehicle (VACIM), being developed under the Spanish Ministry of Defence’s Special Modernization Program (PEM), aims to enhance operational capability in coastal areas. Under the agreement, IDV will supply SUPERAV 8×8 platforms. Their amphibious capabilities are certified to world-class standards.
Technical Integration and Variants
The 34 vehicles to be delivered under the project will be configured into four different variants based on operational needs:
- Personnel Carrier
- Command and Control
- Recovery
- Ambulance
Indra will handle the installation at its facilities in Spain, the integration of mission systems, and functional validation. This process will increase the technological depth of the Spanish defense industry in amphibious solutions. Moreover, it will reinforce the role of local facilities in the production chain.
Global Standard: The SUPERAV Platform
The platform developed by IDV already forms the basis of the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) being produced for the U.S. Marine Corps and Italy’s Veicolo Blindato Anfibio (VBA). These references provide proven, field-tested reliability for Spain’s new amphibious combat vehicle.
