The GÖKBEY Full Flight Simulator (GÖKSİM), developed by HAVELSAN, has been completed with domestic and national resources and has reached the delivery stage. Pilots of the national helicopter GÖKBEY will receive their training with GÖKSİM. This simulator will substitute for actual flight hours.

A critical milestone has been reached for pilot training of Türkiye’s first national multi-purpose helicopter, GÖKBEY. HAVELSAN has successfully completed the GÖKSİM Full Flight Simulator project. This simulator will be used for type conversion, emergency, refresher, mission rehearsal, and maintenance/test pilot training for pilots of the GÖKBEY helicopter, developed by TUSAŞ.
Training Will Count as Actual Flight Hours
HAVELSAN CEO Mehmet Akif Nacar stated that the project has reached the delivery phase. He announced that, initially, pilots from the Gendarmerie Aviation will receive training on this simulator. GÖKSİM has been developed in compliance with the highest qualification standards of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). As a result, the hours pilots spend in the simulator will be recognized as actual flight hours under international aviation regulations.
Fully Domestic Software and Visual Systems
HAVELSAN, which has previous simulator experience with platforms such as ATAK, Seahawk, Black Hawk, and Cougar, produced all software for the GÖKSİM project entirely with domestic resources. In addition, all components—from visual systems to image generators—were localized using the institution’s own library. Everything, from airport databases to external world models, was also provided through this library.

GÖKBEY’s unique panoramic glass structure and lower windows have been replicated in the physical design of the simulator. Therefore, the visual system, mirrors, and projection equipment were specially enlarged to allow pilots to clearly see below and around them. In addition, thanks to the 6-axis motion platform, physical responses such as climbing, turning, and turbulence are felt accurately. This eliminates the risk of vertigo.
Dangerous Scenarios in a Safe Environment
GÖKSİM hosts hundreds of emergency scenarios that would be too risky to attempt in actual flight. Pilots can also experience crises such as engine failure, cockpit fire, bird strikes, and structural damage in a safe environment. This allows them to develop their reflexes.
With this initiative, HAVELSAN has enabled Türkiye to establish a comprehensive aviation ecosystem entirely with domestic resources. This covers everything from platform design to engine integration. Additionally, every stage—from avionics systems to training simulation infrastructure—has become part of this ecosystem.
