Hanwha Aerospace has signed a major agreement with the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) that is set to alter the balance in the Baltic region. Under the contract, valued at approximately €250 million, Estonia will add Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems (MRLS) to its inventory in order to enhance the strike capability of its armed forces.
Deliveries Begin in 2027
Announced at an official ceremony held at the Estonian War Museum, the agreement includes Chunmoo launchers, three different types of missile systems (CGR-080, CTM-MR, and CTM-290), as well as a comprehensive training and logistics support package. Deliveries of the systems are expected to begin in 2027.
This procurement represents Estonia’s second major purchase from Hanwha Aerospace. The Tallinn administration had previously modernized its artillery units by acquiring K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzers from South Korea.
The agreement will not be limited to off-the-shelf procurement alone. Hanwha Aerospace and ECDI have also reached an understanding on a long-term industrial partnership with the Estonian defense industry. The cooperation includes technology transfer, local production of selected components in Estonia, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) support.
Features of the Chunmoo System
Built on a highly mobile 8×8 wheeled chassis, the Chunmoo is known for its precision strike capability. The system can fire rockets of various calibers and ranges, including 239 mm precision-guided munitions.
By citing this contract with Estonia as a reference, Hanwha Aerospace aims to expand its market share in the Baltic and Scandinavian countries.
