Although it seems that the mythological figure Icarus’ hubris culminated in his death, it might as well be the case that the narrator might have arbitrarily punished this inventor, who was involved in things beyond his capability.

The mankind’s dream to fly was thus postponed until the appearance of the Wright Brothers, who resumed from where Icarus had left off. On December 17, 1903, Orwille and Wilbur Wright managed to realise the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft built by them. Neither of them were engineers; indeed, it is known that they did not finish high school. However, their father Milton Wright, who served as bishop, brought them a toy helicopter in 1878, made of paper, bamboo and cork with a rubber band. It was based on an invention of French aeronautical pioneer Alphonse Pénaud, who would thus trigger their first flight in 1903.
