Combining massive firepower of up to 600 rounds per minute with a low radar cross-section composite dome design, the indigenous system is set to transform naval platforms into highly resilient fortresses against asymmetric threats. Developed by Bursa-based Ermaksan, the THUNDERBOLT 40/70 T Twin-Barrel Naval Gun will be presented to professionals for the first time at SAHA EXPO, to be held at the Istanbul Expo Center between May 5–9, 2026.
Indigenous Shield Against Modern Naval Threats
Designed to address one of the most critical requirements of modern naval warfare—close-in weapon system (CIWS) defense—the THUNDERBOLT 40/70 T provides effective protection against low-altitude cruise missiles, UAVs, helicopters, and swarm surface threats.
Thanks to its composite dome structure optimized for low radar cross-section (RCS), the system significantly enhances the signature management and survivability of the platform it is integrated into.
Advanced Technical Capabilities and Firepower
Operating in the 40 mm class, the system has been optimized to respond to high-intensity saturation attack scenarios:
Range & Muzzle Velocity: Maximum range of 12,500 meters and muzzle velocity of 1,000 m/s
Rate of Fire: Up to 600 rounds per minute
Ammunition Capacity: Up to 736 ready rounds
Elevation & Traverse: -13° to +85° elevation and 360° full azimuth coverage

Serial Production and Testing Phase
Following the Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed in June 2022, the development process of the project gained significant momentum. After successfully completing land-based firing trials conducted in Karapınar, Konya in July 2025, the system has entered serial production, becoming a sustainable inventory option for the Turkish Naval Forces.
Ermaksan Deputy Chairman and General Manager Ahmet Özkayan stated that the company’s more than 60 years of engineering expertise has been reflected in the defense sector, adding: “With the Turkish-Type Naval Gun, we are offering our Naval Forces a high-firepower, indigenous, and sustainable defense solution.”
