Embraer and Valkyrie Aero have announced a strategic partnership to enhance the Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) capabilities of the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft.
According to the announcement made on March 4, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida, Valkyrie Aero’s next-generation AI-powered Gunslinger system will be integrated into Embraer’s proven A-29 Super Tucano platform. Moreover, the collaboration also aims to provide a more effective and cost-efficient approach to countering the evolving drone threats.
The “Find, Identify, Eliminate” Era with Gunslinger
The Gunslinger system, developed by Valkyrie Aero, is equipped with an advanced AI suite. The system autonomously and rapidly supports the “find, identify, eliminate” cycle against unmanned threats in the field. This enhances the pilot’s real-time tactical decision-making. Additionally, Gunslinger has been designed to fully integrate with the A-29’s existing sensor and weapon systems. Its scalable and sustainable architecture establishes a modern defensive line against emerging UAS threats.
Operational Advantages and Cost Efficiency
The Gunslinger-equipped A-29 Super Tucano provides an effective solution to the significant resource waste caused when modern militaries must use much more expensive, high-operating-cost jet aircraft to neutralize low-cost drones. On top of this, combining the Super Tucano’s tandem cockpit, long endurance, and agile flight capabilities, this platform delivers highly efficient and cost-effective operational capability against unmanned aerial vehicles. Thanks to its ability to safely match the speed of one-way attack drones, the system can conduct highly precise strikes using firearms, guided rockets, and other effectors.
Marcio Monteiro, Vice President of Market Intelligence at Embraer Defense & Security, commented on the partnership: “We are proud to partner with Valkyrie and strengthen the A-29’s C-UAS mission capabilities. With over 60,000 combat flight hours, the A-29 Super Tucano is the global gold standard for light attack aircraft and an ideal platform for manned C-UAS operations.”
Chris Turner, Senior Vice President (Corporate Strategy) at Valkyrie Aero, added: “Valkyrie is excited to work with Embraer to deliver Gunslinger on the A-29 platform to customers worldwide. Gunslinger was born from the urgent needs of frontline operators and responds to the demands of the combatants Valkyrie trains and interacts with every day.”
