Turkish defense industry company HAVELSAN has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with Italy-based companies VN Maritime and Piloda Defence in order to bring its expertise in autonomous maritime systems to the European market. The agreement covers the development, integration, and commercialization processes of unmanned and hybrid maritime platforms. Under the contract, HAVELSAN has been authorized as an industrial partner by its Italian counterparts in all unmanned surface vehicle projects within the country. Within this framework, all commercial opportunities in Italy related to the coast guard, public institutions, and the private sector will be managed through this partnership.
Next-Generation Autonomy and Mission Solutions
Within the scope of the cooperation model, HAVELSAN will provide the technological infrastructure for the platforms through autonomous control systems, mission management software, AI-based perception solutions, and secure communication architectures. The vehicles to be developed are being designed to operate in fully autonomous, remotely controlled, and manned-unmanned hybrid modes. These platforms are planned to be used in maritime surveillance and reconnaissance activities, anti-smuggling operations, port and critical infrastructure security, coastal safety, border control, and search and rescue support missions.
Targeting First Procurement Contract in 2026
The primary objective of the partnership has been set as signing the first procurement contract in Italy in the first half of 2026. The agreement will be carried out under an exclusive representation authority and a local industrial partnership model in USV/UMV projects. The parties aim to deliver durable and mission-focused solutions tailored to the operational conditions of the Mediterranean.
