The U.S. War Department officially announced that it has identified six Critical Technology Areas (CTAs) that will redefine American military superiority, according to a statement by Deputy Secretary for Research and Engineering Emil Michael.

The announcement focuses on groundbreaking research and engineering efforts aimed at enabling American soldiers to achieve immediate, tangible, and overwhelming results on the battlefield, at a time when adversaries are rapidly advancing technologically.

Deputy Secretary Michael said in a statement, “Our competitors are moving fast, but we will move faster. Combat soldiers want results today, not tomorrow.” Michael emphasized that these six areas are not merely priorities but absolute necessities, stating, “This is how the War Department wins wars.”

Six Critical Areas of Focus

The six Critical Technology Areas identified by the War Department to redefine American military superiority are: Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI), Biofabrication (BIO), Contested Logistics Technologies (LOG), Quantum & Battlefield Information Dominance (Q-BID), Scaled Directed Energy (SCADE), Scaled Hypersonics (SHY).

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth also supported this technological initiative, saying, “The army of our nation has always been on the tip of the spear. Deputy Secretary Emil Michael’s six Critical Technology Areas will ensure our warriors never face a fair fight and have the best systems in hand for maximum lethality.”

The department aims, through this strategic focus, to secure the future of technological superiority and to maintain its commitment to being the world’s deadliest fighting force by rapidly bringing new ideas to the battlefield.
